The Silver Bridge, The White Bridge, The Guinness Bridge, The Farmleigh Bridge.
It was built to carry pipes and power lines to the beautiful Farmleigh Estate & water tower above the Liffey Valley. It’s a local treasure & a part of everyones childhood nostalgia, from those who walked on it to the ones brave enough to jump from it into the water below.
Sometime in the eighties while my Dad was out walking the dog, he came across men on the bridge dismantling it.
The concrete walkway was being smashed directly into the water.
My Dad, a local historian and great lover of the valley he grew up in ‘hot footed home’ and rang everyone he knew to halt the demolition. He was successful in putting a stop to any further damage but the walkway was now gone, never to be reinstated.
